Congratulations to the Houston Symphony, which has launched its ten-year strategic plan, Vision 2025, with a $5M leadership gift from Symphony governing director and Houston philanthropist Margaret Alkek Williams. Her gift will support operations and a sustainability fund, and endow the chair of the Symphony’s Executive Director and CEO, Mark C. Hanson. The organization aims to become America’s most relevant and accessible Top 10 orchestra by 2025.  Elsewhere, in recognition of Houston’s diverse population, the Symphony is the first orchestra in America to create and launch a Community-Embedded Musicians Program where full-time, salaried musicians spend 80% of their time teaching and performing throughout the community as artistic ambassadors, and 20% appearing onstage in concert. Read more here: http://www.houstonchronicle.com/entertainment/arts-theater/article/Philanthropist-gives-5-million-to-Houston-6276695.php
